Here are some ideas on how to safely ship items.
Bubble Wrap and Box: Wrap each small part individually in bubble wrap to prevent damage during transit. Place them snugly in a sturdy box, filling any empty spaces with additional bubble wrap or packing peanuts to prevent movement.
Partitioned Boxes: Utilize partitioned boxes or dividers within a box to keep each small part separate and secure. This helps prevent them from bumping into each other during shipping, reducing the risk of damage.
Foam Inserts: Custom-cut foam inserts provide excellent protection for small parts. Insert each part into its designated slot within the foam, ensuring a snug fit. Then, place the foam insert into a sturdy box and seal it securely.
Sealable Bags: For smaller parts or components with delicate surfaces, consider placing them in sealable plastic bags before packing them into a box. This provides an extra layer of protection against dust, moisture, and scratches.
Double-Boxing: For particularly fragile small parts or shipments traveling long distances, double-boxing is a wise precaution. Pack the small parts securely in a box as usual, then place this box within a larger box filled with packing material for added shock absorption.
Secure Fastening: Use high-quality packing tape to seal all seams and edges of the box securely. Reinforce corners and edges with extra tape to prevent the box from coming apart during transit.
Labeling: Clearly label the package as containing fragile items or small parts to alert handlers to exercise caution. Include handling instructions if necessary, such as "This Side Up" or "Do Not Crush."
Documentation: Include a packing slip or list of contents inside the package for easy reference upon arrival. This ensures that the recipient can quickly verify that all small parts have been received as expected.
Shipping Insurance: Consider purchasing shipping insurance for valuable or delicate small parts. This provides financial protection in case of loss or damage during transit, giving both the shipper and the recipient peace of mind.
Choose Reliable Carriers: Select reputable shipping carriers known for handling fragile items with care. Opt for shipping services that offer tracking and delivery confirmation to monitor the shipment’s progress until it reaches its destination.
We reuse your packing to return your item. If we feel your packing won’t do the job, we will repack properly and charge for the additional time and material to achieve a safe shipping package.
What about engine and transmission cases?
We recommend that that all cases be connected together securely with proper hardware and then wrapped as recommended above.
What else should I do?
Please photograph all items prior to shipping in case you need to file a shipping claim.
What about truck shipments?
These must be scheduled to within an hour window, not four hours or six hours. We also must be notified that the driver is on the way within that hour.
All items must be on pallets, in engine cases, or in another type of shipping container for specific parts.
Shipments must be on liftgate trucks, as a forklift is not always available.
Must include a detailed bill of lading or similar document so we can confirm the amount of items sent.
